To launch your Liveedit website under your own domain name, please complete the following two steps:
Please Note: If you do not own your own domain name yet, you can purhcase one from a Domain Name provider. Some popular Domain Name providers are Google Domains, GoDaddy, and NameCheap.
Step 1) Update DNS records with your Domain Provider
Contact your domain provider's support and request that they make the following two records changes in your DNS settings:
- Set an A Record for your root domain (e.g. example.com) that points to liveedit's IP address of 161.47.102.211
- The root domain is commonly indicated with the @ symbol in the "Name/Host/Alias" field for most domain providers.
- The root domain is commonly indicated with the @ symbol in the "Name/Host/Alias" field for most domain providers.
- Set a CNAME Record for your www subdomain (e.g. www.example.com) that points back to your root domain.
- The www subdomain is commonly indicated with just www in the "Name/Host/Alias" field for most domain providers. In most cases, you can enter @ to indicate your root domain but you may need to write out your full root domain depending on your domain provider.
- The www subdomain is commonly indicated with just www in the "Name/Host/Alias" field for most domain providers. In most cases, you can enter @ to indicate your root domain but you may need to write out your full root domain depending on your domain provider.
Below is an example of both a set A and CNAME record in a DNS settings table. Please note that the name of the rows may vary depending on your domain provider.
Name/Host/Alias | Type/Record | TTL | Data/Value |
---|---|---|---|
@ | A | 1hr | 161.47.102.211 |
www | CNAME | 1hr | @ |
Please Note:
- If an A Record for your root domain already exists in your DNS settings, please update it with the above IP address instead of creating a new one altogether. Having multiple A Records pointed to different IP addresses will prevent your website from appearing live.
- If your domain is "Parked" by your domain provided, please ensure they remove that record.
- Do not set any domain forwarding that takes visitors to your ".liveeditaurora.com" URL.
- It can take upwards of 24-48 hours for DNS changes to propagate and go into effect.
- Once your website is live under your domain, you can continue to login and edit at anytime!
Step 2) Add the domain to your liveedit website
- Log into your Liveedit website then click on the Account Settings tab located within the LiveEdit Toolbar.
- Click on the Domains tab.
- Within the Add A Domain field, type in your root domain (e.g. example.com) then click Connect.
- Set your root domain as the primary domain. The primary domain will be the main domain visitors see when visiting your website. To set this, please click on the Star (
) icon next to your root domain so it appears filled in (
).
- Under the Add A Domain section, type in your www subdomain (e.g. www.example.com) then click Connect.
- Next, let's redirect your www subdomain to your root domain. Click on the small Edit icon (
) to the right of the www subdomain. In the pop-up window that appears, type in your root domain into the Redirect To field. Once added, click Update.
Please Note: Search engines recognize both versions of your website domain but selecting one version as your primary domain and redirecting all other domains to your primary domain, ensures all inbound traffic to your website is seen under one domain.
If you see a checkmark under the DNS column of your domain, it indicates your domain is successfully connected to your website. If you see a question mark, it indicates the A Record of your domain is not pointed over yet.
